A father gives his daughter instructions about what he expects her to do
in a specific matter. The daughter hesitates and then cuts in with a
question. The father keeps at his work on the computer and does not even
look up. “But daddy…..” the child insisted and phrased the matter in
another way.
Mother walked in to find out why it was talking too long for the command to be fulfilled. The daughter answered “I am trying to find out what daddy wants me to do.”
At this point daddy breaks in and says “No. you are not trying to find out what I want you to do, you are trying to see if you can make me relent on the conditions so that you will be able to do what you really want to do instead of doing what I want you to do. Now go and do it immediately.”
Obedience that’s the action many of us struggle with as we walk with God because sometimes he does tell us to do something’s that are hard to understand. Obedience is easy when God tells you to do something that you already want to do or something that is simple enough to do.
But what about when he tells you sacrifice your only son like he did to Abraham, or when he tells you to give and what you have can barely meet your needs? Do you obey or give excuses?
Just like the girl, how many times do we stall in following God's instructions because we are trying to make God relent on His instructions so we can do what we really want to do?
As I was thinking about this, I thought that many times we say we are waiting on God not because we have no idea what God wants us to do, but the reality is that we are waiting on God because we are trying to make God relent on His instructions so we can do what we really want to do.
Are you waiting on God? Well, have you done the last thing he told you to do? Why would you expect new instructions if you have not followed the previous instructions you were given?
God's word is full of instructions of how we are to live life, loving one another, forgiving each other, considering others better than ourselves, spurring each others to good works, giving to the ministry and to the poor and the list goes on. I hope we are not neglecting to do these as we sing out the phrase “I am waiting on God!”
Deuteronomy 5:33
Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
