Grace of God

Titus 2:11-15

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

We learnt that by His grace, God accepts us as we are, He runs towards us while we are still a long way off. But we can't continue to live in sin. So we try to shed off our sinful past- to let go of the desires, the addictions and the tendencies that were once part of us.

We try by our own means to change but we often fail, we slip then we feel like we have let God down. With time we realise that our willpower is ineffective in trying to 'change'. God is reminding you that you were never meant to do it by yourself, it is only by His grace that the old self is shed.

It is by His grace that we understand that we are loved as we are; and that will never change. By His grace we stop desiring the old things and yearn instead to dwell with God more. It is by His grace that we learn to live soberly, righteously and godly... only by His grace!
