Kenyans
Last Minute
The
culture of rushing the last minute is a human being aspect but for Kenyans it is
too much. Until we manage our last minute activities we shall continue to
expect accidents, under development, misuse of recourses and many more
challenges.
Accidents
We
keep on blaming agencies such as National Transport Services Authority ( NTSA),
Ministry of Transport, Kenya National
Highways Authority (KNHA), Kenya Police for
the many lives lost on the road. They have their faults including corruption,
poor road maintenance, erection of bumps, poor road signs, unqualified and
careless drivers, profit focused transport companies, poorly serviced vehicles,
night travels among others that need governmental interventions.
However
somebody needs to tell Kenyans that this last minute travelling plans is
causing the accidents, traffic and fare hikes. In the last minute of the year
we all want to travel upcountry, in the last minute we need to shop, we need to
hire cars and we all end up on the road. However the situation can be different
if we manage our last minutes activities. Instead of going up country in December
only we could all visit the relatives and villages at different times in the year
not the last minute?
Institutions
Alternatives
of going for holidays will come in handy as well as promote local tourism. This
will save us from accidents on the road, rocket rising fares, traffic, inconveniencies
caused by night travel ban, crowded vehicles and the supermarket queues. The
young families will thrive more while our parents will bless us regularly throughout
2018 instead of living with mere hope of seeing us in December 2018 and
experience another cycle of last minute in December 2018.
Politics
The
last minute has seen us take risks even in politics for example in January 2017
a new IEBC Commission was put in place to oversee The August 2018 elections.
Despite the 5 years elections gap we had no plans until last minute, this could
have been one of the factors that contributed to illegalities and
irregularities in the General Election. Thus, as a country we also need to be
prepared and have plans to save us from hard last minutes choices. Political
parties also involved, National Super Alliance (NASA) as a political outfit and
its presidential candidate came in last minute while parties’ merger to form
Jubilee Party was done when elections were around the corner.
2018
The
resolutions and goals of 2018 are in the right place but for them to be
fruitful and achievable timelines, timelines that will save us from last minute
rushing. Plan in a holiday, take leave from work and pursue that project, take
up evening classes and just do it in time. It takes planning, setting right
goal and clear timelines to avoid last minute activities and have a successful
and prosperous 2018.
