Unconditional
Romans 5:6-7
For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person- though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
We all ask this questions from time to time especially when we are going through hard seasons in our lives. For some reason we equate God's love with the good seasons in our life and when things are not so good we take that to mean that God is not happy with us, thus we question His love for us. We hardly have any doubts about the love of God for us when we are going through a season of plenty and favor.
This is so because many times our love is conditional. For some of us when growing up, our fathers were proud to show us off saying this is my son or daughter when we had done a good thing like getting straight (A) in our exams. The moment we get a (C) we are no longer referred to as my son or daughter by our fathers, instead we become our mothers children.
Even in the house of God we tend to show our love to one another conditionally. When a brother or sister falls from grace instead of loving them back into the fellowship we push them away. We start avoiding them and spreading all manner of stories about them.
Does God love us in the same way? No He does not. God’s love for us is unconditional. We cannot do anything to earn it; neither can we do anything to take it away.
God did not look down from heaven and think, wow! These guys are so good, they are praying, loving one another and worshiping me. Let me send my son to redeem them because they are so good!
No, the bible says that while we were still sinners in our filth, God loved us and sent His son to die for us. It has nothing to do with what we did.
There is nothing that you can do to make God love you more and there is nothing that you can do to make Him love you less. God loves all of us the same, and that should be the message we emphasize this Christmas season!
Many songs have been sung about love but this one thing is for sure, God's love is worth singing about forever!
