Kept by His Power

Kept by His Power

"We are not able to keep ourselves; we are kept by the power of GodOur Redeemer has all power in heaven and in earth, and if we do just as Jesus tells us to, we shall be kept safe in His love. In our own strength we are perfect weakness, but, when we put our whole trust in Jesus Christ, we are kept by His power, for He is fully able to keep every soul who puts his trust in Him."
"The peril to which every soul is exposed is very great. The great adversary of God, and the enemy of man is watching to find an opportunity to take us when we are off our guard. Jesus has told us of our danger, and warned us against the wily foe. He has repeatedly enjoined upon us the duty of always watching and praying, lest we enter into temptation."
"Believe in Jesus, trust in Jesus with living, constant faith, and rely without doubt upon Jesus to keep and save you. One mighty to save has hold upon you; and as long as you will submit to be led by Him, to learn of Him, to confide in Him, He will keep you from falling; and when God engages to keep you, He is a sure defense. He is a strong fortress, and as you confide in Him, you are perfectly secure. His word is pledged in your defense, if you will believe in Him. Simply trust in God, and obey His commandments, and you are saved by the merits and intercession of Jesus Christ."  14MR 72

Make a Difference

The number of times I have thought,
“Oh I am not good or powerful enough to change anything.”
“Oh I am not rich enough to help this person.”
“Oh I am not so well equipped to make a difference.”
A story is told: “Once a deer, a crow, a mouse and a turtle were great friends. One day the deer went out to graze. He was caught in a hunter’s net. In the evening, the deer did not return to his friends. The mouse said to the crow, ‘Will you fly over the trees to find the deer? Then fly back to us and tell us where he is.’
The crow flew away. He came back after half an hour. He said, ‘Our friend, the deer is in the hunter’s net.’
‘What shall we do’? asked the mouse and the turtle. ‘I will take mouse on my back,’ said the crow. ‘He will bite through the net and set the deer free.’
‘Yes,’ said the mouse. I will do that.’
‘And I will walk to the deer,’ said the turtle. The crow took the mouse on his back and flew with him to the deer. The mouse bit through the net. The deer was free. “
This teaches me one main lesson-It takes good cooperation with the little I have, to make a difference.
A mouse is such a small animal but with very strong teeth. That is what was the most important asset needed to help the deer. However, since he could not walk there, he needed the crow to fly him but on the other hand the crow’s beak could not help enough. We often focus on our weaknesses as reasons enough not to achieve something but we forget our strengths/assets and the people around us.
I have learnt to use what I have and to involve those around me to make a difference in someone’s life and in society as a whole. Are you doing enough?

Missed Opportunities

Missed Opportunities; Wrong Dressing
Someone once said that many people miss out on their opportunities because they come dressed in work clothes.
There is a tale about these two shoe salesmen who travel to a third world country in search of new business opportunities. One man calls the office and talks to his supervisor saying, “I’m coming back home. There’s no hope here. Nobody here is wearing shoes, so there’s no one to sell to.” He boards the next flight home. The second man calls the office and says, “Send me as many pairs of shoes as you can! You wouldn’t believe what I found here. There is so much opportunity. No one here is wearing shoes. I can sell to the whole country!” One saw an opportunity while the other saw a dead end.

Matthew 14:15
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

The disciples nearly missed out on an opportunity because it came dresses as a problem. If it was up to them they would have sent all the people home with nothing to eat not knowing that Jesus was about to do something that would be talked about for ages to come. All that the disciples looked at was the little resources they had and the amount of work it would take to feed this entire crowd. All this after sitting in the scorching sun, too much work, just send the people home.

Opportunities many times come dressed as work or problems and only those who are not afraid to put in the work see them and embrace them. It’s one thing to see an opportunity but unless you put in the work then you will not reap the fruit of that opportunity. At the end of that day, the people had been fed and they all got to experience the multiplication power of God.
What opportunities can you see? Could it be that you don’t see none because they showed up at your door step in the wrong attire? Look again.

DECLARATION
Lord give me discernment to see the opportunities that come dressed in the wrong clothing. I am not afraid of work, I will work that God may bless the work of my hands!

Did you pull back

Did you pull back?

In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In the letter he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front lines where the fighting is the fiercest. Then pull back and leave him exposed so that he’s sure to be killed.”
- 2 Samuel 11:14-15

"Then pull back and leave him exposed..." Uriah did not die because he could not handle the intensity of the battle, but he died because of the negligence of those who were supposed to support him in the battle zone. His fellow soldiers sold him out. Those who were supposed to cover him, "exposed" him for the enemy to devour him. The paradox here is: the true enemies of Uriah were not those he was fighting in the front, but those he was expecting to protect him in the back.

We must understand that Uriah was a skilful, well trained, and disciplined soldier. He was one of the best in David's army. But still he could not fight the battle alone, he needed a faithful team to back him up. It's not that he was weak or inexperienced, the real issue here is not weakness, the real issue here is "negligence".

Strong soldiers have died in the field because of negligence, strong soldiers have been fatally wounded in the field because of indifference.

When we shift back in a time of trouble and need, innocent & faithful people die either physically, emotionally or spiritually because of us.

When we pull back and expose our brethren, we become co-workers with the enemy and God is watching us. God will hold us accountable for neglecting our brothers and sisters in times of need.

Sometimes people leave the church / work place/ home -because we pulled back in their times of need and they got exposed to the enemy.

Let's be careful not to neglect one another especially in times of need.

Be a true brother's and a true sister's keeper.

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2

God is with Me

It begins with knowing who you are in Christ.

Knowing that we are in right standing with God is essential to walking in faith, believing His Word more than you believe what you think or feel, no matter what your circumstances look like. You see, when you are afraid that God doesn’t love you or you’re afraid He’s going to get mad at you if you make a mistake, you aren’t likely to take many risks in life. You might reach out to God in an emergency, but what God really wants is for you is to learn how to live by faith every moment of every day.
God has the power to do absolutely jaw-dropping amazing things in our lives! He wants us to fulfill the purpose and plan He has for us, and we have the help of the Holy Spirit to do it. But we need to keep moving forward, trusting God to help us.
Actually, the main reason the Bible says, “fear not” is because God is with us!
I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me… (Psalm 23:4). The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? (Psalm 118:6). The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]… (Hebrews 13:6).
Each time you feel afraid, I encourage you to simply say, “God is with me in this; I’m never alone” until that truth becomes deeply rooted within you. And the more your faith builds, the more courageous you’re going to be!
Remember, God doesn’t love you based on what you do. He loves you completely, because He is love—it’s all He knows how to do!

When fear knocks on your door, send faith to answer.

Mark 4 gives an account of a terrible storm. Jesus was in a boat with His disciples at the time because He’d said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake(Mark 4:35). And then the storm hit. The wind and waves were tossing their boat around, but Jesus was sound asleep! And His disciples were trying desperately to wake Him because they were afraid they weren’t going to survive.
Here’s the part I love: Mark 5:1 says, They came to the other side of the sea….
In other words, when Jesus says we’re going somewhere, then we’re going somewhere! We might feel like we’re being tossed around by our troubles, wondering: God, where are You? Why aren’t You helping me? But He is with you, and you can remain peaceful and stable through every storm. That’s what faith looks like.
God is with Me
The best way to deal with the fears that come against you is to call on God for help, and then exercise your faith. Say, “God is with me. This storm is not going to last. And I’m going to make it to the other side.”
Let’s quickly look at how Jesus helped His disciples.
Mark 4:39 says, He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea…And the wind ceased (sank to rest as if exhausted by its beating) and there was [immediately] a great calm (a perfect peacefulness).
The fact is, you don’t ever have to be afraid. You are free to push past your fears and pursue every dream God has given you, because He is with you. And while He is working out the details of your journey, you might as well enter His rest.

Position of Power and Authority

Lessons from Joseph
Now you have the position, the power and authority plus all the resources imaginable. The individual who put you in prison now reports to you. The lives of your brothers who were unjust to you by selling you off into slavery are now in your hands. The only way they stay alive is if you agree to sell them food plus because it is many years later, they do not recognize it is you. The big question is, how do you handle this situation?

Genesis 45:4-5
4 And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come closer to me.” And they approached him. And he said, “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. 5 Now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me ahead of you to save life and preserve our family.

I cannot even begin to imagine the kind of horror on the faces of his brothers when Joseph revealed himself to them. They must have thought “we are dead men!” Talk about a clean and pure heart, Joseph had one. In his heart he had already forgiven his brothers even before they asked to be forgiven.
Think about Potiphar and his wife, what do you think went through their minds when they got the news that Joseph was now second in command after Pharaoh? Or the cup bearer who had forgotten the good Joseph did to him by interpreting his dream and for 2 years he forgot to put in a good word for him? Yet in all this things Joseph did not carry offence neither did he allow bitterness to take root in his heart.

From the scripture above we can tell that Joseph was a man who did not just look at things from face value. He sees the big picture and that is why he had to reassure his brothers that what they meant for evil God had turned around for good.
This one thing is for sure, you cannot walk into and function in your destiny if you allow bitterness offence and un-forgiveness to take root in your heart. Your destiny is connected to serving people in one way or another and how can you do that with un- forgiveness weighing heavily in your heart? Realize that it is Joseph who was wronged by his brothers. Humanly thinking, he has every right to be angry and bitter not only because his brothers sold him off into slavery but more so that they hated him enough to contemplate killing him. Despite all this he takes the initiative to forgive and reassure his brothers that all is well. God could not only trust him with resources, he could also trust him with people’s lives and heart.

Can He trust You?

DECLARATION
I will not allow bitterness and resentment to take root in my heart. Lord help me to be quick to forgive like Joseph, help me to know how to handle peoples hearts with compassion and care.

Imprisoned for Doing Right

 The Prison Test
Lessons from Joseph
Have you ever found yourself being punished for doing the right thing? You strive to live a life that is pleasing before God, you maintain your purity and you keep to godly values but you still come out as the evil one and you end up being punished. That’s the story of Joseph. His brothers put him in a pit and sold him off as a slave. For some time in Potiphar’s house, it seems like things are getting better for him. God’s favor is upon him and soon enough though he is a slave he is promoted to basically make decisions in his master’s house. Then when things seem to be getting better, all hell breaks loose.

Genesis 39:19-22
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

Just because you do the right thing does not mean that you will not end up in trouble. Trouble will find you, it will look for you and find you just like with the example of Daniel. For many of us if we were to be honest with ourselves, if this kind of situation happens to us then we would come to the conclusion that God has forsaken us. The prison test comes down to the attitude of our hearts. This is the second time Joseph finds himself in some sort of pit because someone did not like him. His brothers lied to their father and made him conclude that Joseph had been mauled and killed by a wild animal. Now Potiphar’s wife falsely accuses Joseph of attempted rape and he is thrown into prison without any kind of trial.

Maybe like Joseph you feel taken advantage of, those who are telling your story are telling lies and because they have more authority than you then no one bothers to hear your side of the story. The bondage you find yourself in is because of someone else’s lies.

The big question remains, what is the attitude of your heart?
Will you allow resentment and un forgiveness to take root?
Will you allow your circumstances to change your output?
Because Joseph’s heart was clean, God was with him and even in the prison dungeons he prospered so much in what he did that just like in Potiphar’s house, even in prison his work ethic and sense of responsibility made him stand out. It’s never about where you are, it’s always about what’s in you.

DECLARATION
I will not allow the prison bars to intimidate me. The God who delivered me from the pit will also deliver me from this prison. I declare that just like in Potiphar’s house I will prosper in this prison because it is never about where I am but always about who is in me, Greater is He who is in me than he who is the world.
